    This staff member will serve as the primary operations manager for all internal processes and interdepartmental engagement related to the CGI U platform.  They will provide quantitative management, analysis, and in-depth supervision of relevant CGI U workflows, including finance, metrics, outreach, membership, sponsorship, commitments, event management, and programming.

    CGI U brings together young leaders and entrepreneurs from around the world to generate innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.  Central to the CGI U model is the Commitment to Action: a new, specific, and measurable project that has a tangible impact in at least one of five focus areas: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. 

    Scope refers to the extent or range of operations for the position.  Impact refers to the effect of the position’s actions on the organization.

    As Deputy Director, this role will provide supervision and support related to CGI U’s annual meeting, a three-day event which brings together over 1,000 student leaders from over 80 nations, in addition to over 60 speakers and program participants onsite.  The Deputy Director will also provide oversight of CGI U’s year-round operations, including the development of over 700 unique student projects on an annual basis, ongoing partner recruitment, and university outreach efforts.  The role will work to increase opportunities for efficiency and transparency across the various departments and workflows relevant to CGI U, while ensuring that key deadlines are met by all stakeholders.

    This position impacts the overall effectiveness of CGI U’s annual meeting, along with its year-round programming regarding student engagement and enterprise development


    Internal Foundation operations:
    Metrics: provide ongoing assessment of CGI U’s quantitative impact, and manage any research projects or inquiries from the Metrics team.
    Finance: work in close conjunction with CGI U’s Director and the Foundation’s finance team regarding budget management and analysis, along with invoice and reimbursement processes.
    Communications and Marketing: work with the Foundation’s Communications and Marketing teams to develop a year-round press plan and strategy, including a wide range of “beyond the meeting” featuring opportunities for CGI U students.
    Legal: serve as CGI U’s point of contact regarding relevant legal documents, including the host campus LOI and MOU, donor agreements, and student waivers.

    Internal CGI U operations:
    Membership: analyze student attendee management, including application processing, data cleanup, and member communications.
    Sponsorship: track all partner recruitment processes, ensuring efficient coordination between departments regarding outreach plans and donor onboarding.
    Commitments: assess progress reporting and year-round commitment development and featuring efforts.
    Event management: work in close conjunction with event lead regarding event staffing and onsite division of labor.
    Outreach: provide monitoring and evaluation of all student recruitment processes.
    Program: ensure that all program deliverables are executed in a timely manner, including speaker vetting, invitation, and briefing processes.

    Internal CGI U team management:
    Hold weekly check-ins with each CGI U team member to review timelines and deliverables, assess workplans, and provide support and supervision for individual and departmental goals and metrics.
    Oversee the year-round calendar of key dates and deadlines.
    Manage staff recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for new team members.
    Contribute to overall strategy and long-term planning processes for CGI U.

    Education (Minimum Needed and Type of Degree Needed): Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred


    Work Experience (Minimum Needed): 7-10 years minimum


    Specialized Knowledge Needed For Performance of Job: Significant experience with project management and staff oversight required; previous work at relevant social enterprises or non-profit organizations strongly preferred; familiarity with conference or event management also preferred.


    Skills (e.g. Level of Judgment Required, Ability to Direct, Work Independently, Multi-Task, etc.): Ability to multi-task, strong organizational and follow-through skills; high level of professionalism, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to maintain composure under high pressure situations; highly detailed-oriented.


    Special Skills (e.g. Technical, Advanced): Experience working with BBCRM or other relational databases; proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office and other workplan and project management software.


    Other (Communication Skills, Mechanical Aptitude, Math Skills, Learning Skills, or Other Specific Skills Required):
    Foreign language skills a plus but not required.
